Using Heat Seal with Patches on Hats

Heat application tips for different patch types

Applying different patches using a heat seal can have different results depending on a few factors.  The Arrow team shares some tips for best practices.

Woven Merrow with Heat Seal

Woven patch with merrowed border that wraps around the edge.
Heat seal is applied
BEFORE the border so the border does not lay flat.

Woven Satin Stitch with Heat Seal - No Barrier

Woven patch with satin stitched border that lies on top of the patch.
Since the border is only on the top, it will lie flat when heat pressed.
Take care as heat pressing with no barrier can make the thread shiny.

 Embroidery Merrow with Heat Seal

Embroidered patch with merrowed border that wraps around the edge.
Heat seal is applied BEFORE the border so the border does not lay flat.

Embroidery Merrow with Heat Seal to the Edge

Embroidered patch with merrowed border and heat seal applied
AFTER the merrow so that the border lies flat. This can result in extra
labor for the factory.

Soft Rubber - Sewn On

Soft rubber patch with a sew groove. No sew groove is also possible.
Patches should be applied using a heat press with bottom heat.

 Leather Sewn On

Leather patch without a sew groove. Patches are sewn on.
Faux leather cannot be heat applied. Genuine leather, however,
can have heat seal. Sew groove or no sew groove.

iron on patches

Heat-sealing patches on hats ensures a durable and professional attachment, providing a secure and lasting embellishment solution. This method involves using heat and pressure to bond the patches seamlessly onto the hat fabric.
